The APR is a major part of The Rowlands’ overall performance management system. It is intended as a discussion tool for the employee and supervisor to document and discuss:

The Rowland Way should permeate all aspects of performance and should be considered in performance discussions as well as performance ratings. Therefore performance is not only what is done, but how well it is done in light of the Rowland Way Principles.

THE ROWLANDS

ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REVIEW - 2002 GOALS

Goal/Job Duties

Year End Actual Results

(Use qualitative/quantitive standards of measurement)

1. Mother the Rowland offspring

Both children are happy and healthy—most of which is a direct result of the nurturing services that you are providing. You have done a good job instilling parental respect in the Rowland offspring. You have consistently kept the children fed, bathed and entertained.

2. Support the educational needs of the Rowland children.

The educational attainments of the oldest Rowland child are remarkable, and I believe directly related to the encouragement you have provided. Steven’s kindergarten teacher has confirmed that your efforts have paid off. Your work with Andrew is also excellent, and he is making great strides in character recognition and in art.

3. Prepare meals for the Rowland family

You have made many new recipes this year. Understanding that certain budget decisions have impacted the grocery cash flow during the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2002, you have done an excellent job of maintaining the quality and variety of repast that we have come to love.

4. Adhere to the Rowland budget and make sound financial decisions

The budget that was introduced at the beginning of the 3rd quarter of 2002 has been followed, for the most part. When the budgeted amounts have been exceeded, they have been for sound reasons, and your forbearance is much appreciated. This attention to financial detail directly affects our family’s ability to provide ‘perks’ and benefits, such as the shiny 2003 Toyota Matrix car that you have been issued.

5. Maintain order within the household

You have done a satisfactory job of cleaning the Rowland home during the past year. Steady improvement has been noted since 1st quarter 2002.

6. Produce great works of literature

This year we published your first novel, Loved and Lost, which received rave reviews from critics throughout the country. You have made progress on your next piece of literature, which appears to be nearing completion.

7. Contribute to the community

Your contribution to the community library system has not gone unnoticed. You have excelled in your work there, and have made your family proud.

8. Contribute to the church

You have performed many works of service this year for the church. Your orchestration of the variety show in early 2002 met rave reviews from all who attended. Your steady involvement with the special music program has also been above average.

9. Communicate effectively with your supervisor

You have done a great job this past year in working as a team with your supervisor. Thank you for your part in keeping the communication flowing and your assistance with conflict resolution.

10. Fulfill the emotional needs of your supervisor

During 2002, your supervisor has reported that he feels highly fulfilled emotionally. Without getting into details, he has expressed interest in continuing this relationship into 2003.

2002 ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REVIEW

Rating of 2002 Performance

Name: Katherine Rowland

Supervisor: Chris Rowland

Date: November 19, 2002

Overall Performance Rating:

   Outstanding

Exceeds Expectations

   Achieves Expectations

   Improvement Needed

   Does Not Meet Expectations

   New in Position

I realize that the performance management system is a new addition to our family. This year you have done an excellent job of meeting your goals and job duties, even without being told what they are!

I appreciate the effort you put forth—you are truly a prized employee. The personal service that you provide our entire household is above and beyond what is expected. You have had a very productive year, and have made our home a pleasant and enjoyable place to live.

For the upcoming year, I suspect that your goals will remain mostly the same as 2002. I have put in a request that a clothing bonus be granted to you at the end of 1st quarter 2003, after our tax refund has been received.
