I'm a Wife

I have been married since July 15, 1995 to a wonderful man named Chris Rowland. It is a joy and delight to be married to him, and though I married young and quickly I have never regretted a single decision.

Many have asked what our marriage is really like, and what advice I would give to someone about to be married. To start with the second question first, I would say that it's extremely important to spend enough time to know what you're getting into and with whom you're getting into it. For us, that took nine months from the day we met. For others, it may take years.

I firmly believe that our marriage has been kept strong because we talked about all the big stuff before we ever entertained the notion of getting married. Living across a country from each other was a help!

What is our marriage like? It's as goofy as we are. I would say that our marriage is characterized by two things: humor and hard work. Which isn't to say that we are always working hard...more often we're hardly working! But I would say that we make an excellent team, and when we need to we can buckle down and get things done. But our work (and our play) is done with a wink and a smile, more often than not. We have been blessed by God, too, with a very uncommon likeness. I like to say that we are the same person at heart, with different personalities; Chris (who is a computer programmer) says that we're wired the same, and our differences are all in the user-interface level. However we say it, it has resulted in hundreds of uncanny shared thought processes. And I can't but accept it as a compliment that, while we're far from being joined at the hip, people at church often call one of us by the other's name.
